The Charlotte Observer Interviews Michelle Fish in Regards to Banking Layoffs

The workers cast out as Bank of America Corp. slashes 30,000 jobs will face a challenging job market, vying against a growing number of talented bankers in a sector that hasn't fully rebounded, recruiters say.

Michelle Fish, chief executive of Integra Staffing & Search, whose Bankston Partners division recruits accounting, finance and IT workers, got a few panicky phone calls when Bank of America announced the number of job cuts this week. Most were from clients and colleagues wondering how the news would affect Charlotte.

"I have learned after many, many years in the industry to calm down first and then see what's the next wave of news," Fish said. "Sometimes you have to let the dust settle before you really see how we're affected and how Charlotte is affected."
